Lean Coffee @ The Summit!
Jim Benson, Tonianne DeMaria & Margie Hagene
Lean Coffee is a structured, but agenda-less meeting. Participants gather, build an agenda based on a theme (e.g. lean coaching), and begin talking about topics that are meaningful to them. You can learn more here: http://moduscooperandi.com/kanban-applied/lean-coffee-2/.
The 2018 Lean Coaching Summit in Seattle, WA will kickoff with a “mass” Lean Coffee. Last year’s summit in Austin, TX started in a similar way. Those attendees said it was a great way to get ready for the summit ahead. It also helped everyone get to know one another better and sooner.
The mass Lean Coffee will generate many topics for discussion, but not an exhaustive list. Some topics will be discussed and in some depth. The constraint of time will limit quantity and quality.
For these reasons, “smaller batch” Lean Coffees will also be offered throughout the summit. Participation will be voluntary.
Here’s how it will work:
- Mass Lean Coffee will collect topics from all attendees and organize initial discussions
- Small-batch Lean Coffees will follow, taking place at the same time as breakout learning sessions in rounds of 90 minutes
- Topics from the mass Lean Coffee can be pulled into small-batch Lean Coffees
- New topics can be added
- Epiphanies/learnings will be captured and shared
It’s not for us to say what will happen during Lean Coffee and what you’ll get out of it. It’s entirely up to you. In that way, Lean Coffee embodies the summit’s theme of “Just-in-Time.”
