So You’ve Done Humble Inquiry. Now What?

Presented By:

Judy Worth

As coaches and influencers, most of us have been introduced to the techniques of humble inquiry and deep listening to understand another party’s point of view. However, often we don’t know what to do with the information we’ve uncovered to move things forward when the other party disagrees with our suggestions, proposals or opinions. This session will briefly recap the techniques for humble inquiry/deep listening, provide simple steps for stating opinions or requests assertively and for working to secure agreement to collaborate or compromise. Participants will then practice applying those techniques in two sessions of role-play practice.

Learning Objectives

In this break out session, you will practice applying humble inquiry and influence/negotiation skills to move things forward when you and another party disagree by:

Applying humble inquiry skills to surface and confirm your understanding of the other party’s concerns, beliefs and desires. Using what you’ve learned to state what you want to accomplish in a way that increases the chance of success. Using what you’ve learned to identify areas of agreement and disagreement and engage the other party in collaboration or compromise.
