Re-Thinking Your Story of Learning and Teaching: How Theory Impacts Preparation and Delivery

Presented By:

Jennifer VanHorssen

Session Abstract:

Expanding deployment means growing internal coaches and requires new capacities. Knowing how to practice the kata routines ourselves does not necessarily translate into the ability to effectively foster development of the same skills in other learners.
Effective learning facilitators understand how people learn and focus on the specific needs of the individuals being coached. They expand their knowledge and adapt by experimenting with teaching tools from a ‘tool box’ of methods, supporting the learners on a path towards autonomy.
This session will emphasize the teaching aspect of coaching, how
to direct your abilities toward the learning process itself, and highlight how a personal theory of learning can help you cultivate greater learning in others.

In this session you will…

  • explore how methods used in the learning process directly relate to the outcomes/actions of the learner
  • learn about the difference between learning as a product and learning as a process, and
  • begin to build a personal theory of learning and teaching
