Mindfulness is the ability to focus one’s awareness on the present moment. It is about being fully present and grasping the impact of your thoughts, words and actions right now with the person you are coaching. Great coaches are present for the person they are coaching and able to observe the coaching process from multiple perspectives.
A Google search on “Mindfulness Harvard Business Review” brings up countless business publications attesting to the impact of mindfulness for leaders, managers and coaches. In fact, many large organizations are beginning to embrace Mindfulness as a core competency which needs to be developed.

Mike Orzen has been studying and practicing lean for over 25 years in a variety of industries including service, IT, manufacturing, healthcare and insurance. His work includes the coaching of numerous C-level leaders, managers, lean coaches and graduate students. Mike is the co-author of two books which apply lean thinking to information and technology: Lean IT and The Lean IT Field Guide. Mike is the recipient of the Shingo Prize for outstanding research and publication. He has been practicing meditation and mindfulness for over 30 years.
